Was 'in residence' when the church burnt down 12 September 1941. He went elsewhere in Liverpool and was particularly upset about the fire as he had now lost 3 sets of vestments in fires in 2 years!

Came to absolutely no church at all. Went around the deanery collecting anything he could. He said he was used to that sort of thing as he had recently returned from missionary work in Africa. He arranged morning services in Mrs Almond's sitting room at Rose Farm; Bible Classes on Sunday afternoons at Rosetta Cottage; Sunday School and Evensong in Jubilee Hall.
