The Third Sunday Before Lent

Proper One

Week beginning 5 February 2012

Introduction and Call to Worship

Let us follow Christ’s example in coming to our loving heavenly Father in gratitude and joy, knowing that we are never alone, that he is always there to help.

Today’s Readings

First Reading Isaiah 40:21-31
The Jews had seen Jerusalem razed to the ground and had endured many years of exile in Babylon. Isaiah brings a message of hope that despite this, they were not forgotten by God.

Second Reading Corinthians 9:16-23
Paul believed he would be within his rights as an apostle to claim financial support from the Church but here explains his reasons for choosing not to do so.

Gospel Mark 1:29-39
Jesus has had a busy morning teaching in the synagogue and casting out a demon. But there was still more work to do at Simon Peter’s house.

Prayer during interregnum

Bountiful God, give to this parish a faithful vicar who will faithfully speak your word and minister your sacraments; an encourager who will equip your people for ministry and enable us to fulfil our calling.

Give to those who will choose, wisdom, discernment and patience, and to us give warm and generous hearts, for Jesus Christ’s sake.

Amen
