TRINITY 13

22nd week in Ordinary Time - Proper 17

Week Beginning 29 August 2010

INTRODUCTION

Enter God’s house, and be welcome. Come with your hopes and fears; your triumphs and failures; your secret self, and the self you project to the world. Come and find acceptance and love, and tingle with the challenge of change. All are welcome here!

TODAY’S READINGS

First Reading Ecclesiasticus 10:12-18

Jesus son of Sirach offers words of wisdom for God’s people. He warns against the sin of pride, and says that God will raise up the humble and bring down those who cling to pride and power.

Second Reading Hebrews 13:1-8, 15-16

The writer to the Hebrews rounds off his letter with snippets of advice for the early Christians. Above all, they must praise God, do good, and share with others.

Holy Gospel Luke 14:1, 7-14

Jesus uses two stories about tables and table manners to teach about the kingdom of God: how it will upset the established order, and create a new one where the poor and disadvantaged are given pride of place.
